UNSW is committed to advancing environmental sustainability across all areas of our operations to ensure sustainable progress for everyone. This commitment is guided by UNSW’s Environmental Sustainability Plan (ESP).
To help shape the future of environmental sustainability at UNSW, we are conducting a tri-annual survey to gather your insights, perspectives, and behaviours around sustainability. The results will play an essential role in informing updates to the ESP beyond 2024.
Why your input matters
Your contribution ensures UNSW continues to deliver sustainable programs and operations. By completing the survey, you will help:
- Measure awareness of current sustainability initiatives and issues.
- Identify which environmental concerns staff and students prioritise for urgent action.
- Assess participation in sustainability efforts and uncover barriers.
- Highlight opportunities to improve sustainability practices across campus.
Your responses will play a key role in refining and enhancing the next phase of the ESP.
How your feedback has made a difference
In our last survey in 2021, your input directly contributed to significant sustainability achievements, including:
- Completing an electrification strategy and starting a campus-wide roll-out.
- Developing a Sustainable Procurement Framework and roadmap to embed sustainability considerations in purchasing activity.
- Using 100% renewable electricity for UNSW operations and installing one new solar PV system.
- Expanding the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) program to 80 laboratories.
- Enhancing native planting and tree canopy through the Nature Value metric framework.
- Establishing the Plastic Free Dining Awards, with 27 of 28 retailers now achieving a gold, silver or bronze award.
- Ranking 7th globally in the 2024 THE Impact Rankings, including 2nd in Climate Action and 10th in the 2024 QS World University Rankings for sustainability.
