In collaboration with Randwick City Council and the Australian Energy Foundation, UNSW Sustainability is marking Earth Hour with an information session on Thursday 25 March about energy efficiency in the home.
Do you want to help fight climate change but are wondering what you can do to make a difference? Are you studying or working from home and spending more money on energy bills that you'd rather be saving?
Thankfully, you can make a difference, and you can save money while doing it!
The Energy Efficiency Information Session will be hosted over Zoom from 2.30pm – 3.30pm, Thursday 25 March. You can register here now.
This information session is part of the Earth Hour movement involving thousands of organisations and millions of passionate people in 190 countries worldwide. The session will help you understand:
- Understand what areas of the home use the most energy
- What simple behaviors can significantly reduce your energy use
- Everything you need to know about solar, insulation, hot water heat pumps and more + what you can do as a renter
- What rebates are available in Randwick Local Government Area and how to claim them.
It is more important than ever to engage with Earth Hour in 2021 and think about how to make a positive impact all year round. Australia was hit hard during the devastating bushfires of 2019-20. Up to 19 million hectares were burnt, with 12.6 million hectares primarily forest and bushland. Thirty-three lives were lost, around 3,094 homes destroyed, and nearly three billion native animals were impacted by the bushfires. The pandemic was quick to follow, slowing down efforts to regenerate Australia in the wake of the bushfires.
You can get involved in Earth Hour in so many ways beyond switching off your lights at 8.30pm on Saturday 27 March. Find out more on the Earth Hour website.
If you're unable to join the session, we can send you a recording if you register here. To learn more about solar and batteries visit Australian Energy Foundation website at aef.com.au.
