Help with recycling (some quick links)

To learn what UNSW is doing to reduce waste and improve recycling, visit the waste and recycling section of our website.

There are plenty of things you can do to reduce your contribution to waste, including many services provided by the university. If you need any help, please email sustainability@unsw.edu.au.

Paper

If you have paper to recycle, place it in the BLUE BINS. These bins are for paper only and are located campus-wide. For further information or bigger bins contact FM Assist on extension 55111. For small under-desk recycling bins email sustainability@unsw.edu.au.

Cardboard

If you have small amounts of cardboard you can place it in the paper recycling bins. If you have large quantities of cardboard, or heavy or waxed cardboard, please contact FM Assist on extension 55111. 

Printer cartridges

Printer cartridges can be recycled through the Planet Ark- Close the loop Recycling Bins. These are located campus-wide. For further information see Campus Sustainability – Recycling - Printer Toners. 

Batteries

Rechargeable and single use batteries up to size D can be recycled in the battery recycling boxes located at many spots on campus including Library, FM Assist and Chancellery. For further information visit Campus Sustainability – Recycling – Batteries. 

Mobile phones and accessories

Recycle your old mobile phones as well as mobile phone accessories such as chargers using phone Recycling Box located at many spots on campus including Arc, CONTACT, FM Assist and Chancellery. For further information visit Campus Sustainability – Recycling – Mobile Phones.

E-waste

You can recycle University-owned electronic equipment like computers, monitors, keyboards, printers etc by raising and Archibus request. For more information go to UNSW-HP Asset Recovery Service for E-waste or contact FM Assist on extension 55111.

If you have personal e-waste, your local council will have e-waste collection services. Check with your local council to see when your next e-waste collection day will be. 

Furniture

For reuse and recycling options of UNSW furniture please submit a RWS form. Free delivery is provided. For further information visit Facilities Furniture re-use program or call FM Assist on extension 55111.

CDs and DVDs

We have collection bins for old CDs and DVDs that we recycle through Australian Plastic Reprocessing. For more information email sustainability@unsw.edu.au

Fluorescent and other lights

For recycling and proper disposal options of fluorescent lights, CFL, incandescent, halogen and discharge light bulbs, please contact FM Assist on extension 55111 or email FMassist@unsw.edu.au.

Plastic and aluminium

In addition to recycling bins found throughout the campus, at UNSW we provide recycling of plastic, glass or aluminium drink containers through our Reverse Vending Machine which is installed in the Mathews Arcade. For more information email sustainability@unsw.edu.au 

Stationery

Need some free stationery? At UNSW, the student association Arc run the Stationery Reuse Centre which massively reduces waste going to landfill. The stationery diverted from landfill is free for students and staff and the centre is located on Level 1 of the Quad building at the Kengsington campus. For more information visit the Arc website.
